Following the announcement made in the Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies dated August 6, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a draft circular titled ‘Reserve Bank of India (Settlement of Claims in respect of Deceased Customers of Banks) Directions, 2025’.

The draft aims to review and update the existing regulatory framework for settling claims related to deceased depositors. The RBI has invited comments and feedback from stakeholders and the general public, which can be submitted via the 'Connect 2 Regulate' section on the RBI’s website or by email, no later than August 27, 2025.

The final circular will be issued after considering all inputs received from the public and stakeholders.
