Students trained under India's National Olympiad Programme, supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), delivered one of the country's best-ever performances at the International Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics Olympiads 2026, securing a total of 12 gold and 7 silver medals.

India achieved a historic clean sweep by winning all five gold medals at the International Physics Olympiad and all four gold medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad, finishing joint World No. 1 in both competitions. The country also secured one gold and three silver medals at the International Biology Olympiad, and two gold and four silver medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

The students were trained under the National Olympiad Programme coordinated by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), a national centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) supported by the Department of Atomic Energy. The programme identifies, trains and mentors talented pre-university students through a multi-stage selection process.

The DAE said the achievement highlights the success of India's long-term investment in scientific education and talent development, while reinforcing the country's growing global standing in science and mathematics.
