Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended lower on Thursday amid profit-taking after a seven-day rally and disappointing earnings from Hindustan Unilever.

Selling in blue-chips ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel and a largely muted trend in Asian and European equities also dragged the markets lower.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 79801.43 down by -315.06 points or by -0.39 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24246.7 down by -82.25 points or by -0.34 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 80173.92 and intraday low of 79724.55 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24347.85 and intraday low of 24216.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 819.65,+3.24%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12160.00,+1.77%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 668.20,+1.26%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1452.85,+0.94%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1804.50,+0.87%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2325.25,-4.00%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1844.80,-1.96%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1402.25,-1.53%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 236.40,-1.17%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2900.85,-0.57%), among others.
