Sensex and Nifty extended their gains in afternoon trade on Wednesday, with the Nifty climbing above the 24,250 mark as buying in IT, FMCG, banking and metal stocks lifted the benchmarks.

At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77724.48 up by 958.56 points or by 1.25 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24270.15 up by 284.8 points or by 1.19 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 77765.32 and intraday low of 77333.24 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24279 and intraday low of 24136.75

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2115.00,+4.54%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1152.90,+4.26%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3938.75,+2.77%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1954.55,+2.74%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 187.15,+2.44%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1722.30,-3.09%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3226.30,-1.41%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 282.60,-0.95%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 387.25,-0.49%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1920.20,-0.35%), among others.
